Volunteering for Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Global Change Workshop 3rdof January-14th of January 2010 had taught me special lessons especially in terms of patience, commitment, responsibility, unity, international friendship, teamwork, leadership skills and etc.
Our work in the volunteering had been divided into several tasks. The first phase is that the volunteers are being divided into 2 : hotel volunteers and airport volunteers. I was assigned to be an airport volunteer. Picking up the participants and the speakers at the airport in the firts few days before the workshop started and sending them off to the airport after the workshop had finished.
Apart from that, my task involved preparing for the IT for the presentation, checking IT stuff (laptop, projector, compatibility of the computer) printing the slides from a troubled old printer(Though i requested the new one, to save my time and the level of efficiency and my effectiveness, slow printer really consume time. for example work that can be completed in 5 minutes, turn out to be 50 minutes, I am not kidding you!),photocopying for the participants, some ushering, that was my job at the Senate Room,Chancellor Hall UBD.
In Kuala Belalong, the volunteers were assigned to do housekeeping chores. Apart from waking up every 5.00am everyday, our tasks in Belalong involve washing dishes, preparing for meals (cutting the vegetables), 'melap pinggan' *lol* (4-5 times a day) for 7o people. A brand new good experience for me and for us..! Thought it was tiring yet spending time in Kuala Belalong and Temburong really enjoyable and really peace and we managed to get a good laugh almost all the time. *lol* and the most important thing, we stayed at Ulu-Uu Resort, sucessfully attempting the Canopy walk and had a good time at the waterfall.
I definately appreciate Dr.Zul, UBD VC for mentoning "Thanks to the student volunteers" in his speech during the closing ceremony ,though it was just simple words, it mean a lot to me because our effort is being recognize and appreciated.
I'd like to thanks to our volunteer leaders, Billy and Bazzy for being a great and motivating leader and without the guide from you guys,we would have been facing difficulties in achieving our volunteer goals. For all the volunteers, it was great to spend time with you guys.!
Overall it was a great experience to mingle with the international and local partcipants and the speakers..!
