Stand up against child abuse

Monday, August 31, 2009

Have you ever come across any news article about the child abuse? It is least likely to read about child abuse especially in our beloved country. It is a crime that is less likely to be reported partly because the the domestic crime/violence takes place at home where hardly people realized and notice but even if some people realize it, do you think they would be dare enough to report such incident at the relevant authorities? Of course in every single child that are the victims of child abuse,do you think they would just forget about their abusive childhood memories?Do you simply think that they can erase the harsh treatment that was given to them? Which do you think is much more damaging to a child ? physically child abuse or emotionally child abuse. Personally I would think it is emotionally child abuse that affect the child's life the most because that child would never ever forget how she was being mistreated!

This is what society can do to protect child abuse:
1) contacting relevant authorities
2)calling a police
3) providing moral support the the children
4) avoid the child abuser

What is child abuse?

Child abuse happens when an adult mistreats or neglects a child. The person who abuses is misusing their position of trust and authority. This could be a parent, guardian, relatives, paid caregiver or sibling.

Children depend upon adults to protect them, support them and help them survive. Being abused damages their sense of safety. It also makes them more likely to be abused and exploited in the future.

Child abuse is a silent crime. It can happen in all cultures, social classes, and religions. Also, children with disabilities are more at risk for abuse.

What forms does child abuse take?

A child can be abused in different ways. Following are just some examples:

Physical abuse

Physical abuse means inflicting physical harm on a child's body. It may involve abusing a child a single time, or it may involve a pattern of incidents. Some examples are:

  • Shaking, choking, biting, kicking or burning a child
  • Handling a child roughly when helping them with dressing and going to the bathroom
  • Using force or restraint in any other harmful way.

Often the parents or child abuser feel they need to physically punish or discipline the child. They may also think what they are doing is good for the child. An example of this is female genital mutilation (also known as "female circumcision").

Physical abuse sometimes leaves the child with a permanent disability. For example, a child may end up deaf, become paraplegic or have brain or spinal cord injury.

Emotional abuse

Emotional abuse includes other acts that can harm a child's sense of worth. It is usually part of a long-term problem.

It harms a child's self-confidence when an adult insults, rejects or humiliates them often. Other examples of emotional abuse include:

  • Isolating a child - keeping them away from other children, or removing their wheelchair or hearing aids.
  • Intimidating or terrorizing a child - locking children in closets or basements, threatening or shouting at them, making them fear the adult.
  • Exploiting a child - having them do things children don't normally do, like working when they should be in school.
  • Making unreasonable demands - telling them to play outside without getting dirty. Telling them to change their homosexual orientation if they want to stay living at home.

Indulging yourself!

Sunday, August 30, 2009

Indulge yourself with full body massage and it will made up your day. I had a full body massage few days ago and the result prove to be great! With the slow soothing music as the background, added by the stimulating aroma of the massage oil, together with the tender touch by the massage therapist. A perfect combination!

The massage took approximately around 2 hours and the service was charged for only $30. I deserved the massage and at the end of the day I am very satisfied with the service given compared to the last massage at different salon! Somehow I think I should get a massage atleast once a month! To make my life happier.*lol*

Memorable trip to Kedah,Malaysia!

I didn't blog much about my trip to Kedah in my previous post and now think it's the best time for me to blog about it since I have plenty of free time !

Morning of 26th July 2009 we arrived at Sultan Abdul Halim Airport Alor Star,(capital state of Kedah) taking flight from Kuala Lumpur via Airasia. Upon arrival, we were welcome and fetched by our aunt and she brought us to her home, a place where we stayed in Kedah. It was the time I set my foot to the place which is also famously known for its rice production and is called 'Rice Bowl of Malaysia'

We spent two nights and two days in Kedah. We spent our first day in Alor Star by taking walks around the places that we stayed from there we spent some time -seeing and went quick shopping to the nearby shops. We also had a chance to visit 'Rumah Kelahiran Dr.Mahathir Mohammad' and visit our relatives who lives neary-by.

The next day, we planned a very last minute trip to go to Langkawi island by taking ferry from Kuala Kedah to Langkawi. The fare is RM23 one way. The duration is approximately about one hour and 45 minutes and upon arrival in Langkawi, Khairul (taxi driver that was recommend by my aunty)showed us around and due to our limited time, we took 4 hours of touring Langkawi and only had to pay RM100 for it!(its affordable and its worth the money!as I would describe Khairul as a very good tour-guide!)So, within 4 hours we were only manage to go to 'Kota Mahsuri','Beras Terbakar', 'Orient Village' and Langkawi Cable car (the fare is RM25).

Langkawi Cable Car, I would personally say it was a very great experience. As you reach the top, you can clearly see the panoramic view of Langkawi islands, enjoying the coo air. Insyallah we'll come back again because having day trip is simply not enough to explore Langkawi islands and next time if I want to go to Langkawi, I'll make sure that I have the glimpse of the beautiful islands of Langkawi by having island hopping and visit some of the places of interest that I had in my mind such as the Lake of the Pregnant Maiden, PULAU PAYAR MARINE PARK, TELAGA TUJUH and more ;)

On the 28th of July 2009,the last day of our stay in Kedah. Jaidi fetched us in the morning and brought us to Penang. It took approximately 2 hours (more or less) from Kedah to Penang by car.

Artfest @ UBD

Our friendly Vice-Chancellor (L) second row :D

So what do you think of my new layout? Pretty cool than the previous one, huh? I am totally loving it! I hope you 'll loving the new layout too! :) Anyway, from what I mention earlier, Wednesday is my day off. It is a day n I don't have any classes and it is a day when I'll looking for something fun to do or something entertaining to attend to such as the ARTFEST that took place at the UBD cafeteria. I love entertainment events! especially if it is organize by the students of UBD.

Seriously, I love the traditional dances. It makes me feel like I want to dance with the rhythm.Unfortunately I can't.I've tried the traditional dance once and it appears that it doesn't suitable for me because my dance gesture is too 'karau' to be a dancer! Apart from the traditional dances, there was also a interesting short drama showcase performed by the Rakis club. Plus there was also photo-shoot booth by the Photography club and I was being informed that photos that were taken (photo-shoot )will be soon to be judge and vote and the winner(s) will get a prize. (I wonder what will be the prize?)
